   …unless you are a cop and need to mount a tablet or laptop computer!

   This car mount for cell phones would easily hold ANY handheld device (in the smartphone, GPS, or MP3 categories) as long as it had at least a semi-flat back. Even the curved LG G Flex phones are “flat enough” to work with this unit. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this suction cup help even on the semi-textured portion of my dashboard that has caused me problems with other mounts in the past.

   The suction cup is a little larger than other mounts that I have seen before and won’t fit into/onto the plastic dish/disc that I had to mount onto my dash for the previous mount I was using. Again, though, it’s not an issue because this suction cup does not require that mounting helper any more; the grip in fact feels stronger than the previous mount. Now while I think that this mount would work for virtually any device, I am personally using it with an HTC One M9 smartphone protected with a Unicorn Beetle all-sided case. The grip hold on the phone itself is designed quite well with a bit of elasticity; it allows the grip to securely hold the phone with pressing hard enough that it activates the volume buttons (another issue I had with my previous mount).

   You can see in the product description the details on the dimensions and what it “should” be able to hold, but you know how sometimes, these things don’t work as you hope. For me, however, it works perfectly. I know that I can confidently purchase another when my wife’s phone needs upgrading or when her current mount no longer holds like it should.

   UPDATE: The car mount fell off the dashboard of my car after two months. I understand that this kind of thing can happen with suction-cup mounts, especially if they’re rxposed to high temperatures. I live in South Florida. And the mount b came detached on a very warm day.

   I wouldn’t have reduced my rating from 5 stars to 3 . . . in fact I wouldn’t have reduced the rating at all . . . IF I’d been able to reattach the mount.

   I sure tried to. I followed the reattachment directions carefully (hand-rinse the suction pad with water and mild soap and let the pad air-dry. Also clean the dashboard area the mount is to be placed on). I tried to reinstall the mount 3 times (once on each of 3 successive days), while my car was garaged. Each time the mount fell off within a few hours.

   Disappointing.

   After trying 5 other car mounts . . . NONE of which would STAY “attached” to my car’s dashboard . . . I decided to try one more: THIS one. And I’m glad I did.

   It’s terrific in every way.

   Some context . . .

   I didn’t want to mount my iPhone 6 Plus on the windshield nor on the top of the dashboard because the phone”s so big, it would block my vision and be distracting, too.

   And I didn’t want to use a “vent” or “CD slot” mount because my car’s interior design made those options unfeasible.

   My only option was to mount the phone near the glovebox. And the available flat surface there is a tad shorter than the size of the suction cups on car mounts I’ve seen and tried.

   Well, the TaoTronics mount STAYS attached despite that last potential limitation. In fact it’s attached so firmly, it feels as if it’s PART of the car itself.

   And it’s designed very thoughtfully . . . with one-step release, full rotation, a cutout for lightning cable attachment, etc.

   Even the packaging is great. Frustration-free and recyclable.

   I’d been hesitant to buy this mount because it was priced so low. (I know; that’s irrational.) Some of the other mounts I tried cost twice as much as the TaoTronics mount. In fact, one cost MORE than twice as much. But none worked. This one does. Perfectly

   So even if this product cost a lot more than it did, I’d still recommend it without any reservations.

   TT-SH02U Re-issued with a Stickygell suction pad that remains sticky. Changing location or just lost its sticky, just wash the pad with warm water and air dry to bring it back to the original sticky condition!

   The SH02U has a lever activated suction cup so I can easily move it around the cabin as needed. Sometimes I put it on the side window sometimes on the windshield. The design is easy to adjust and readjust with one hand. The adjustable phone grippers easily hold my Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. When I have completed my daily driving deeds, I often bring the SH02U in and clamp it on the CPU tower so the Skyrocket is highly visible on charging cable while I relax at the computer, or a glance from across the room to see what sort of incoming message has been received by the recharging Skyrocket.

   The phone gripping clamps adjust easily, and are pliable enough that if I need to quickly take an incoming call I can wrest it away from the holder clamps easily with a twist. Or, replace just as easily. Potholes have not jarred the phone from the holder or the holder from the cabin glass.

   I used to put the phone on map and wedge it on the console, until a sharp turn threw it under the passenger seat causing me to find a parking lot with room to practically crawl under the passenger seat to rescue the phone from a greasy spring mechanism. No more looking down to see the map. I have it clamped on the side glass so the phone screen is right up front at road height. I can glance at the screen and still see if someone made an unwise turn in front of me.

   I have been using the TT-Sho2U for weeks without a hitch. This upgraded TT-sho2U with the sticky gell vacuum pad has me completely confident that my $800 phone is not going to fly out the window. I think I will order four more for my relatives.

   Out of curiosity, and a little concern I looked up this material. This stuff is great. I would not eat it, but I would not worry about it setting in a closed cabin either.
